Thursday Evening Meditation Group
The current topic for discussion is Faith In Mind by by the Third Patriarch, Chan Master Seng-can, with commentary by the late Chan Master Sheng Yen.
DDRC holds a weekly group meditation practice session every Thursday evening. All are welcome to join in the simple practices of Chan, where we apply meditation methods of walking, light yoga exercise, sitting, and standing. The silent practice is followed by a brief discussion on the concepts and application of Chan meditation.
The practice program is orderly, yet flexible, suitable for beginners as well as advanced practitioners. Sitting periods are approximately 20 minutes, but one is welcome to sit continuously. For first-timers, a brief introduction to sitting meditation is given by the assistant teachers.
If weather permits, we will begin the practice with outdoor walking through the beautiful Retreat Center grounds. Wear your walking shoes, and loose comfortable clothing that is suitable for sitting meditation.
With group practice, you can benefit from the support and strength generated by many people practicing together. Also, you can receive guidance from the resident teachers, and make connections with like-minded practitioners. Most importantly, with routine practice, you take the necessary steps to discovering the wisdom and compassion that is already within your own mind.
- Every Thursday, 7:00-9:00 pm
- Free and open to the public
